Empathy expert teaches how to understand others even when you politically disagree

In a democratic society in which members of a single community can have widely divergent value systems, an openness to others’ values (PI Practice M1) involves—in fact, requires—empathetic interactions with those with whom you might disagree. Elizabeth Segal, professor in ASU’s School of Social Work, discusses the role of empathy in healthy democratic discourse. Includes links to two of Segal’s articles on empathy in Psychology Today.
